King Arthur dagger made of metal with a lined and removable plastic sheath.
The story of King Arthur is closely tied to the magical and mysterious sword Excalibur, whose name means “Cut the Steel,” one of its many attributes. It was also said that Excalibur’s scabbard had the power to protect its bearer, preventing harm or injury.
There are several legends about how Arthur obtained this mythical sword; two versions stand out above the rest: the first portrays Excalibur as the sword pulled from a stone by Arthur, and the second as the sword entrusted to the young king by the Lady of the Lake.
In the first version, recounted by Geoffrey of Monmouth, it is said that when King Uther Pendragon died, Merlin forged the mighty sword Excalibur on the island of Avalon and buried it in a steel anvil atop a rock near St. Paul’s Cathedral; whoever could pull the sword from its resting place would be the rightful king of England. When Arthur turned sixteen, his father took him and his brothers to London to participate in a knightly tournament. While searching for a sword for his brother Kay, Arthur firmly grasped Excalibur, and as he lifted it, the blade slid smoothly. Thus, he was immediately crowned king.
